Some products and medications can affect your waxing experience. Please
check with our specialists prior to your appointment if you are using any of the
following: Accutane, Retin-A, Avita, Benzoyl peroxide, Glycolic acid and
Salicylic acid. Topical exfoliants used on the area to be waxed such as Retin-A,
Renova, and hydroquinone, oral acne medications such as Accutane, blood-
thinning medications, and topical/oral cortisone make the skin more sensitive
and increase the likelihood of irritation or other complications.
OUR BEST WAXING TIPS
How long does my hair need to be for best results?
For best results, we recommend that you wait until you have about 1/4 inch to a 1/2 inch of hair growth in the area that you wish to have waxed. The longer your hair, the faster the results and the less need there will be for tweezers and touch up. It normally takes about 3 weeks of hair growth for your hair to reach the recommended length for waxing.
How long will my skin remain hair-free?
This depends on several factors. Every person's hair grows at a different rate, but generally speaking, most people's skin will remain smooth and free of hair growth for at least 2 weeks and others can go for 3 weeks before hair growth returns.
Can I tan after my wax?
You should wait at least 48 hours after your wax appointment before you expose your skin to the sun, tanning beds, or sunless tanning. Waxing has an exfoliating effect on the skin and will make you temporarily more susceptible to sunburn and sensitivity. If you are planning a spray tan, schedule the spray tan after the wax instead of before or the wax will strip off your tan.
What should I do to prepare for my wax?
It is always helpful to gently exfoliate your skin before a wax service. For best results, do not apply self tanner, moisturizer, any abrasive facial or body scrub, or any product that dries the skin before your waxing appointment. Also avoid strong facial peels, sunburn, caffeine and alcohol before your appointment as these can result in increased skin sensitivity.
Your skin will need to be clean before your appointment, but try to avoid taking a shower or bath immediately before the treatment. Soaking the hair in water will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective.
What are the benefits of getting a wax on a regular basis?
While shaving provides results that typically last for only a day, at the very most. Waxing provides longer lasting results, as the hair is removed by pulling out the roots. Weeks later, when hair grows back, it is softer, finer, thinner, and more sparse. The more often you receive a wax, the less your hair will grow back.
What should be avoided after waxing?
After your appointment, we suggest that you avoid any of the following:
- harsh or abrasive exfoliating products
- direct sunlight and tanning beds
- hot tubs, saunas and hot showers
- tight clothing
After 2 days, you can use a gentle exfoliating skin care product when you shower to keep skin soft and prevent ingrown hairs.
